You've already gotten the highlights for last weekend, and we're about to hit the opening. A couple of quick reminders before I get to the ramble:
* Weather might happen this weekend; if you have clothes that might be damaged by rain then it would be a good idea to have a way to cover them up going to and from the warehouse
* <insert standard illness comment here>
* We can handle anything that goes wrong, from missing articles of clothing to major power outages, 'cause we're Fezzi's and we rock (and occasionally rock out)

There was too much that happened last weekend to actually do a blow by blow. I've been thinking about it on and off all week and came to the conclusion I'm not even sure I could recall all of it even if I want to. If you're looking for the quick highlights rather than the ramble I've got a few things for you.

Like I said in notes, let the word "newbies" be stricken from your vocabularies until late next year. Anyone who got through last weekend is a Fezzi. On opening day we were handling crowds like what we saw second weekend last year, and doing it without any major snafu's. I was, and am, impressed.

Wooly Rambles: Dress rehearsal weekend (1/2) PDF Print E-mail
I really hate dress rehearsal weekend. Every Sunday before opening I end up dragging my self away from the Cow Palace with a monologue of all the things we still haven't covered running through my head (and sometimes out my mouth). Some things that we'd forgotten entirely when outlining the weekend (if we'd had a chance), others that we'd planned on talking about and never actually did. I stew on the time used by fair management during the morning meeting when Fezzi's could have been rehearsing. In short, I work myself in to a pretty stupid state that makes me less than pleasant to work with by the end of the day.

If I growled at you, please forgive my bad temper. Yes, there was probably some cause, but it almost certainly didn't deserve the level of my response.

Here's the kicker: it doesn't matter. There will be things that we intended to do but didn't, that folks don't know, and that we completely forgot. There will be great points that were quietly brought up at rehearsals that never were shared more publicly. You can bet there are things that were talked about that weren't really needed. We'll get through ok, and in fact I expect that this year will be a really good year to be a Fezzi.

There will be notes over the run of fair touching on things that aren't working right; there will even be some "Oh bother! ... Quick, stop that and do THIS" during fair, only once or twice if we're lucky. Go with it. Remember what we've gone over, listen to Mr. Fezziwig and the various assistant director types, go to them or a group lead with questions, and do your best. I'm seeing a whole lot of heart in this year's cast, and that is what will make the warehouse a wonderfully warm and inviting ballroom for our guests.

I'll write my thoughts on what actually happened over the weekend, but it will come later. I really want to get this sent while you might be able to read it before opening.

Ever your devoted servant,

Mr Bagnet

Wooly Rambles: Second workshop weekend PDF Print E-mail
The second weekend of workshops is historically the normal weekend; no special events mucking up the schedule and we can all simply dig in and start seriously reminding ourselves what we need to know to pull this crazy thing off without too much pain. One of the things that I've really liked about the last couple of years is that the cast as a whole has built up a body of knowledge that has kept the tremendous problems to a lovely bare minimum. The time that we're spending in rehearsals is how we avoid having to teach the same lessons during fair, and I really appreciate the results.

During Fair
Ask questions. Don't be afraid to ask for clarification or help. We're a team.
Drink lots of water. No, more water than that.
Eat regularly. You're burning a lot of calories.
We highly recommend Mr. Brown's morning mush as the best breakfast at fair. Bowl of mush (oatmeal with fruit cooked in), with or without a sausage is the perfect fuel for Fezziwig’s.
The Meat Pie Shop (near the V&A) is also another good value for hot food midday.
Take your breaks. Find a bench somewhere in fair and sit. Walk the fair in character. Go to the big green room out back and check your iPhone. Take some time off.
